Päästötön is a Finnish adjective meaning “emission-free” or “without emissions.” It is formed from the noun päästö, meaning emission, and the suffix -tön, meaning without. The term is used in environmental discourse to describe activities, products, or energy sources that do not produce pollutants during operation.

In practice, päästötön often refers to emissions released at the point of use, such as a vehicle’s exhaust or a power plant’s emissions stack. The overall environmental impact depends on factors like how electricity is produced or the life cycle of a fuel.
