Psykrometric is a term used to describe psychrometric methods for assessing the thermodynamic properties of moist air. In many contexts, psykrometric refers specifically to the techniques and instruments used to determine humidity-related conditions in air.

The core measurements in psykrometry are the dry-bulb temperature and the wet-bulb temperature. The difference between these readings, along with the air’s pressure, allows the calculation or estimation of humidity metrics such as relative humidity, humidity ratio (also called specific humidity), and dew point. Psychrometric charts or modern digital tools are used to visualize and extract these values, linking temperatures to moisture content under various atmospheric conditions.

Instruments used for psykrometric assessments include sling psychrometers, which rely on evaporation from a wet wick, and aspirated psychrometers or electronic humidity sensors that provide faster, continuous readings. Calibration and proper exposure to airflow and radiation are important to ensure accuracy, as external conditions can affect measurements.

Applications of psykrometric measurements are widespread. They are essential in HVAC design and operation, meteorology, agriculture and horticulture, food processing, and industrial drying or storage processes.
