Psykodrama is a psychotherapeutic method developed by Jacob Levy Moreno in the early 20th century. It involves the use of dramatic action to explore a person's feelings, thoughts, and experiences. In a psykodrama session, participants, typically guided by a therapist known as the director, enact or "play out" specific situations from their lives. This can involve recreating past events, exploring current conflicts, or imagining future scenarios.

The core elements of psykodrama include the protagonist, who is the central person whose issues are being explored; the auxiliary egos, who are other participants or the therapist acting out roles of people significant to the protagonist; the stage, which is the designated space for the enactment; and the director, who facilitates the process. Techniques such as role reversal, where the protagonist takes on the role of another person, and doubling, where another participant embodies the protagonist's internal feelings, are commonly employed to gain new perspectives and insights.

The aim of psykodrama is to provide a safe and expressive environment for individuals to confront and process their emotional and psychological challenges. Through active participation and embodied experience, participants can gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships, develop new coping mechanisms, and achieve catharsis and personal growth. It is used in individual, group, and community settings for a variety of therapeutic goals.
