Proksimaalset is an Estonian term used to describe a location near the origin or point of attachment of a structure, closely corresponding to the English term proximal. In medical and anatomical language, it denotes a position closer to the trunk of the body or the point of origin of a limb or organ, as opposed to distal, which means farther from that point.

In practice, proksimaalne describes various body parts and structures along a proximal–distal axis. It is commonly used when referring to bones (for example, the proximal end of a bone near a joint), regions within organs (such as the proximal part of a nephron in the kidney, which lies near the glomerulus), and sections of the digestive tract (such as the proximal colon, closer to the ileum). The term also appears in dental and clinical contexts, where proximal surfaces or sections are described in relation to neighboring teeth or overall alignment.

The concept is part of a broader spatial vocabulary that includes terms like medial, lateral, anterior, and posterior. Proximal and distal are relative terms that depend on a reference point, usually the trunk or the point of attachment. In medical practice, choosing the correct proximal or distal descriptor helps clinicians communicate the exact location, guide surgical approaches, and document findings consistently.
