Progressiivseid is a term derived from the Estonian adjective progressiivne, meaning “progressive.” In linguistics, the inflectional suffix -seid marks the accusative or genitive plural form of adjectives and nouns that are described in the progressive sense. Thus, progressiivseid literally translates to “progressive ones” or “those that are progressive.” The form is used in a handful of contexts in Estonian grammar, often appearing in descriptive language to highlight ongoing or continuous action.

In standard Estonian grammar, the progressive aspect is typically expressed through periphrastic constructions, such as the use of the auxiliary verb olema (to be) together with a verbal noun. However, certain descriptive adjectives in the progressive sense can adopt the -seid ending when they modify plural objects. For example, progressiivses riietuses (in progressive dress) may become progressiivseid riidedes (in progressive clothes) when stating that a group of garments display or depict progressive characteristics.
