Proglaciali is the plural form of a term used in glaciology and geomorphology to describe processes, landforms, and environments that occur in front of a glacier terminus. In English-language literature, the corresponding term is proglacial, referring to the zone immediately ahead of a glacier where ice-melt and sediment transport and deposition take place.

Proglaciali zones arise as a glacier melts and retreats, releasing meltwater that carries and deposits sediments. Proglacial processes create outwash plains with braided streams, sorted by size from coarse gravels to sands, and may form eskers, kettles, and other meltwater–derived features. Debris carried at the glacier surface or within the ice can be left behind as moraines at the ice edge, marking former terminus positions. In places where the glacier damns meltwater, proglacial lakes can form, sometimes peopled by deltas built from proglacial sediments.

Common features associated with proglaciali environments include outwash plains, moraine belts, proglacial lakes, deltas, and sandur deposits. These landforms record recent and older glacier dynamics, and they provide essential evidence for reconstructing paleoclimate, ice advances, and retreat patterns. Proglaciali settings are also relevant for hazard assessment, since rapidly changing proglacial lakes can give rise to glacial lake outburst floods.

Distribution is global wherever glaciers have existed or persist, including mountain ranges and polar regions such as the Alps, the Rockies, the Andes, the Himalayas, and parts of Antarctica. The term emphasizes the link between glacier dynamics and the adjacent sedimentary and hydrological environments.
