processacidulation
Process acidulation is a chemical process used to increase the solubility of minerals, particularly phosphates, in various industrial applications. It involves treating a mineral-rich material with an acid. The most common application is in the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers from phosphate rock. In this process, phosphate rock, which is largely insoluble calcium phosphate, is reacted with sulfuric acid. This reaction converts the insoluble calcium phosphate into soluble monocalcium phosphate and calcium sulfate. The monocalcium phosphate is the key component for fertilizer production, as it is readily absorbed by plants.
The acidulation process can be carried out in different ways. A common method is wet-process phosphoric acid
Beyond fertilizer production, acidulation is also used in the processing of other minerals and in various chemical
