A Babalawo is a priest in the Yoruba religion, also known as Ifá. The term "Babalawo" is gender-specific, referring to a male priest. For female practitioners, the equivalent title is Iyanifa. Both Babalawos and Iyanifas are initiated priests who are deeply knowledgeable in the Ifá divination system and serve as spiritual advisors and healers within their communities.

The role of a Babalawo involves interpreting the signs and messages of the Orishas, the deities of the Yoruba pantheon, through the Ifá divination process. This system uses a set of chains or palm nuts to cast into specific patterns, which are then interpreted by the Babalawo to provide guidance, diagnose spiritual or physical ailments, and offer solutions through rituals and sacrifices.
