Prevádzka (plural prevádzky) is a term used in Slovak and Czech to denote an operation, site, or process where economic activity takes place. Depending on context, prevádzka can refer to a physical place – such as a factory, workshop, shop, warehouse, or office – or to the process of operating equipment, a system, or a service. In legal and administrative language, prevádzka is often the defined location of business activity and may be tied to a specific address, owner, and scope of activities.

Types. In industry and commerce, typical prevádzky include manufacturing prevádzky (production plants), retail prevádzky (shops), service prevádzky (service centers), storage prevádzky (warehouses), and construction sites. Other meanings include temporary or mobile prevádzky, such as a pop-up store or a temporary work site.

Regulatory and practical aspects. The operation of a prevádzka is usually subject to regulatory requirements, including business licensing, zoning and land-use rules, health and safety, environmental protections, and taxation. The operator (prevádzkovateľ) bears responsibility for compliance, maintenance, and safety; start and end of operation are commonly described as "zahájenie prevádzky" and "ukončenie prevádzky." In everyday usage, the term emphasizes location and function of the business activity rather than its legal form.

Etymology. The word derives from "provoz" in Czech or Slovak.

Examples and usage. A bakery can be a prevádzka, as can any facility where goods are produced or services are delivered.
