premolärt
Premolart refers to a type of tooth located between the canine teeth and the molars in the dental arcade of most mammals. Humans typically have two premolars on each side of each jaw, for a total of eight premolars. These teeth are transitional, possessing characteristics of both canines and molars. They are generally smaller than molars and have a more pointed chewing surface, which aids in tearing and grinding food. The premolars are also known as bicuspids because they typically have two cusps, although variations can occur. The first premolar is located immediately behind the canine, and the second premolar is situated between the first premolar and the first molar. Their eruption timeline in humans usually occurs during childhood and adolescence, replacing the deciduous (baby) molars. Premolars play a crucial role in the initial breakdown of food before it is further processed by the molars.
