PremRNA_k's, also known as precursor messenger RNA, are transcripts of DNA that contain introns, or non-coding regions, and exons, or coding regions. During the process of RNA splicing, the primary transcript is modified to remove introns and fuse exons in a process known as splicing.

PremRNA_k's are formed through the transcription of DNA sequences by RNA polymerase. The nascent premRNA_k is composed of the transcribed coding regions, known as exons, separated by non-coding regions, or introns. Introns are typically spliced out and exons are joined together, but different exons can be combined in various ways to generate a diverse array of mature mRNA molecules from a single premRNA_k. This phenomenon is known as alternative splicing.

The structure of a premRNA_k is typically composed of a 5' cap and a 3' poly-A tail, as well as regions known as 5' and 3' untranslated regions (UTRs). UTRs are located on either side of the coding region and have regulatory functions.

PremRNA_k's are processed in the nucleus, a specialized organelle within eukaryotic cells. During processing, the introns are spliced out and the exons are joined together. Mature mRNA is then transported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where it can be translated into protein.
