Prekolumbijskie, also known as the Pre-Columbian period, refers to the time in the Americas before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492. This era encompasses the diverse cultures, civilizations, and peoples that existed across North, Central, and South America prior to European contact.

During the pre-Columbian era, numerous sophisticated societies developed, characterized by advanced architectural, artistic, and agricultural practices. Notable civilizations include the Olmec, Maya, Aztec, Mixtec, Zapotec, Inca, and Moche, among others. The Olmec, often considered the "mother culture" of Mesoamerica, flourished around 1400–400 BCE and influenced subsequent cultures through innovations like writing and complex religious practices. The Maya civilization (circa 2000 BCE to 1500 CE) was renowned for its hieroglyphic writing, astronomy, and monumental architecture such as pyramids and palaces.

In the Andes, the Inca Empire (approximately 1438–1533 CE) was the largest pre-Columbian empire, known for its sophisticated road networks, terraced agriculture, and centralized administration. The Moche culture (1st to 8th century CE), located in present-day Peru, is noted for its elaborate ceramics and irrigation systems.

These civilizations made significant advances in various fields, including mathematics, astronomy, and engineering, reflecting highly organized societies with complex social and political structures.
