Prednom is a small rural municipality located in the northern region of the country of Slovica. The settlement lies in a valley of the Lower Mura River and covers an area of about 12 square kilometres. As of the latest census in 2021, the population of Prednom stands at 1,284 residents, predominantly Slovene, with a small minority belonging to the neighboring Hungarian community.

The name Prednom is derived from the Slavic root *pred-, meaning "before" or “in front of,” combined with -nom, which historically referred to a local topographic feature. First mentioned in archival records in 1376 under the Latinized form "Preodnem," the village has been recorded as a center of agricultural production since the medieval period, especially noted for its viticulture and orcharding. The 18th‑century village church of Saint Nicholas, built in Baroque style, remains a prominent landmark and center of local religious life.

During the mid‑20th century, the municipality became part of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia within Yugoslavia. Its economic base continued to rely mainly on small‑scale farming, though a gradual shift toward tourism has been noted in recent years, with the promotion of eco‑tourism routes through the Mura River valley attracting visitors. The local government led by a mayor and council manages community amenities, including a primary school, a volunteer fire department, and several cultural associations that preserve regional folklore and traditional music.

The municipality’s elevation is 181 metres above sea level. Limited direct rail connections rely on service via the nearby town of Lendava, which serves as the primary transport hub.
