pravomocn
Pravomocný (often written without diacritics as pravomocn in some texts) is a Czech adjective used to describe someone or something that has official authority, jurisdiction, or power to act or decide. It is commonly found in legal and administrative language and conveys that the subject possesses the formal capacity to perform a certain act or to decide within a defined scope.
In legal usage, pravomocný can refer to:
- a person or body with the authority to decide or issue acts, such as a pravomocný soud
- a decision or judgment that has become final and enforceable, i.e., pravomocné rozhodnutí or pravomocný rozsudek,
The term is often contrasted with concepts like nepravomocný, meaning not yet binding or not yet enforceable.
- Soud je pravomocný rozhodovat ve věcech uvedených v zákoně. (The court is competent to decide matters
- Rozsudek nabyl právní moci a je pravomocný. (The judgment has become final and enforceable.)
Etymology traces pravomocný to pravomoc (authority, jurisdiction) with the adjectival suffix -ný. The non-diacritic form pravomocn
