Praktikajuhised refer to a unique event in Estonia that marks the midsummer solstice, the time of year with the longest day. This celebration typically takes place around June 20th or 21st and is a significant cultural tradition in Estonia.

The word "praktika" itself is a loanword from the German word "praktik", meaning "practice" or "test". However, in the context of Juhised, it is not related to the concept of practicing or testing but has a completely different meaning.

During practikajuhised, traditional activities such as bonfires, singing, and traditional dances take place. It is also customary to decorate homes and buildings with greenery and branches, especially birch trees, symbolizing renewal and purification. People often celebrate with social gatherings and feasts, which can include traditional Estonian dishes and beverages.

Another notable aspect of this celebration is the emphasis on nature and the outdoors. Many people spend this time outdoors, hiking, swimming, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends in the midst of Estonia's lush natural beauty. Importantly, the emphasis on Spelunking and the celebration of the sun's life-giving energy are similarly important.

The origins of practikajuhised date back to pre-Christian times in Estonia, when the summer solstice marked the peak of growth and fertility, while the subsequent decline of the sun heralded the start of harvest time. Although this was later adapted with Christianity, the earlier heart for worship is still very much in the public eye. Today, practikajuhised remains an integral part of Estonian heritage and culture.
