Prada is an Italian luxury fashion house based in Milan, known for leather goods, ready-to-wear, and accessories. It was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada as a leather goods shop in Milan, supplying high-end trunks, bags, and other items to the city’s elite.

In 1978, Mario Prada’s granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the business with her husband Patrizio Bertelli and led a transformation toward global fashion. They expanded product lines beyond leather goods, developing a strong international retail network. The brand’s early use of black nylon for bags and accessories became an iconic feature in the 1980s. In 1993, Prada launched Miu Miu, a secondary line offering a more experimental, youthful aesthetic.

Today the Prada Group oversees the Prada and Miu Miu brands, along with other acquisitions such as the British shoemaker Church’s, purchased in 1999. The group emphasizes craftsmanship, material quality, and a minimalist, contemporary design language. Prada operates a global network of boutiques and wholesale partners, with flagship stores in major fashion capitals. In addition to its fashion activities, the brand supports contemporary art and culture through Fondazione Prada, an art foundation established by the Prada family that maintains exhibition spaces and programming in Milan and other locations. The company remains closely controlled by the Prada family, with Patrizio Bertelli playing a key executive role.
