Postudveksling is the system through which postal items are exchanged between postal administrations to ensure delivery from sender to recipient. It covers both domestic exchanges of mail between offices within a national postal network and international exchanges between countries under bilateral, regional, or global agreements, most prominently those coordinated by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Within a national system, mail is collected, sorted by destination, and handed to the next carrier or post office for final distribution. Internationally, items are routed through designated exchange points or hubs where carriers from different countries exchange batches of mail, sometimes passing through customs for parcels. Contemporary postudveksling relies heavily on electronic data interchange, including tracking information and customs data, to coordinate handling and timing across operators.

Historically, modern postudveksling grew from 19th-century efforts to standardize cross-border mail, culminating in the formation of the UPU in 1874. This framework set uniform rates, formats, and procedures, enabling reliable international mail flows and fostered the growth of global mail services and later e-commerce.
