Postsinápticas refers to elements or processes that occur after a synapse. A synapse is the junction between two nerve cells, consisting of a minute gap across which impulses pass by diffusion of a neurotransmitter. Therefore, postsinápticas are those events or structures associated with the receiving neuron or cell immediately following the transmission of a signal across the synaptic cleft.

The primary postsináptic structure is the postsináptic membrane. These postsináptic events include changes in ion permeability, leading to postsynaptic potentials such as excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials (IPSPs). The sum of these potentials dictates whether the postsináptic neuron will generate an action potential and propagate the signal further.
