Polyphosphates are also found in bacteria and yeast, where they act as energy reserves and are involved in stress responses.

Industrially, polyphosphates find numerous applications. They are widely used as food additives, particularly in processed meats and dairy products. In these applications, they function as emulsifiers, sequestrants, and stabilizers, improving texture, preventing fat separation, and enhancing water-holding capacity. They are also employed in water treatment to prevent corrosion and scale formation in pipes.
