Plazmavágók, also known as plasma cutters, are tools that use a high-temperature plasma torch to cut through electrically conductive metals. The process involves creating an electric arc between an electrode and the workpiece, which ionizes a gas (often compressed air) passed through the arc. This ionized gas, now plasma, is extremely hot and melts the metal. A stream of high-pressure gas then blows the molten metal away, creating a clean cut.

Plasma cutting is versatile and can be used on a variety of metals, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and brass. The thickness of the metal that can be cut depends on the power of the plasma cutter. These tools are commonly found in fabrication shops, manufacturing facilities, and construction sites due to their speed and precision. Compared to traditional cutting methods like oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting generally offers faster cutting speeds, particularly on thinner materials, and produces a narrower kerf (the width of the cut).

The operation of a plazmavágó requires a power source, a plasma torch, a gas supply, and a ground clamp. Safety precautions are essential when operating a plasma cutter due to the intense heat, UV radiation, and flying sparks. Appropriate personal protective equipment, including a welding helmet with a shaded lens, gloves, and protective clothing, is mandatory.
