Piirnormides refer to a group of medieval noble families that held significant influence in the Baltic region, particularly in the territories of modern-day Estonia and Latvia, during the 12th and 13th centuries. The name "Piirnorm" is derived from the Old Estonian term *piirnõm*, meaning "borderland" or "frontier," reflecting their role in defending the eastern borders of the emerging Livonian and Estonian states against pagan tribes and later, the Teutonic Knights.
The most prominent Piirnormide family was the **Piirnõm** clan, which emerged in the region around the 1180s.
