Piilotettavuus, sometimes referred to as stealth or low observability, is a characteristic of an object or system designed to be difficult to detect by radar, infrared, sonar, or other detection methods. The primary goal of piilotettavuus is to reduce the probability of an adversary identifying and tracking a target. This is achieved through a combination of design features that minimize the object's signature across various parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and other sensory modalities.

Key techniques employed to achieve piilotettavuus include shaping the object's surfaces to deflect radar waves away from the source, using radar-absorbent materials to dissipate radar energy, and minimizing heat emissions to reduce infrared detectability. For sonar, shaping and sound-dampening materials are used to reduce acoustic signatures. This concept is most famously applied in military aviation, where stealth aircraft are designed to evade enemy radar systems. However, the principles of piilotettavuus can also be applied to naval vessels, ground vehicles, and even smaller objects.
