Phorophytes are organisms that serve as hosts for other organisms, specifically epiphytes. Phorophytes themselves are not harmed by the epiphytes; the relationship is commensal, meaning one organism benefits and the other is unaffected.

Trees are common phorophytes, particularly in humid environments like rainforests. In these ecosystems, the bark and branches of trees provide a stable surface for mosses, ferns, orchids, and bromeliads to grow.
