persikoissa

Persikoissa is a term that refers to peaches in Finnish. Peaches (Prunus persica) are a species of tree in the family Rosaceae, native to Northwest China, and the most commonly cultivated of the two peaches, not the nectarine. The peach is a deciduous tree, growing to 4–6 metres (13–20 ft) tall and wide, and is classified by the genus Prunus, which also contains the plum, cherry, and almond.

The fruit of the peach is a stone fruit, or drupe. It has a fleshy outer part surrounding a hardened pit which contains the seed. Peaches are typically eaten fresh, but can also be used in jams, jellies, pies, and other baked goods. They are a good source of vitamins A and C, as well as fiber.

Finland, being a northern country, is not a primary growing region for peaches due to its climate. However, peaches are widely available in Finland as imports, primarily from warmer European countries like Spain and Italy, as well as from other parts of the world. In Finnish culture, persikoissa are enjoyed seasonally, often during the summer months, and are a popular addition to desserts and fresh fruit salads.
