Periferiudstyr, often simply called peripherals, refers to auxiliary devices that connect to a computer to expand its functionality. These devices are not part of the core computer system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) or main memory, but are essential for user interaction and data input/output. Peripherals are broadly categorized into input devices, output devices, and storage devices.

Input devices allow users to send data or commands to the computer. Common examples include keyboards for typing, mice for cursor control, scanners for digitizing images or documents, and microphones for audio input. Webcams are also input devices used for video capture.

Output devices display or present information processed by the computer to the user. Monitors are the most prevalent output devices, showing visual information. Printers produce hard copies of digital documents, and speakers or headphones provide audio output.

Storage devices, while sometimes integrated into the main computer, are often considered peripherals when external. These include hard disk drives (HDVs), solid-state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, and memory cards, all used for storing data.

Networking devices like modems and routers, although facilitating communication, can also be viewed as peripherals as they extend the computer's connectivity beyond its immediate system. The range of available peripherals is vast, catering to diverse needs from professional applications to entertainment and everyday use.
