Partitionamento, in the context of computing, refers to the process of dividing a physical storage device, such as a hard drive or solid-state drive, into one or more logical sections called partitions. Each partition can be treated as a separate storage unit by the operating system, allowing for the organization and management of data. This division is typically done during the initial setup of a computer or can be adjusted later using disk management tools.

There are several reasons why partitioning is utilized. One primary benefit is improved data organization. Users can create separate partitions for the operating system, applications, and personal files. This segregation can make it easier to locate and manage data, and it can also simplify the process of backing up specific types of information. Another significant advantage is enhanced data security and recovery. If a partition containing the operating system becomes corrupted, data on other partitions may remain unaffected, facilitating easier system restoration. Furthermore, partitioning allows for the installation of multiple operating systems on a single machine, with each OS residing on its own dedicated partition.
