partiisioone

Partiisioone is a theoretical term used in discussions of partitioning in mathematics and computer science. Broadly, it denotes the atomic unit from which a partition is built. In this usage, a universe U is partitioned into a collection of non-empty, disjoint blocks whose union is U, and each partiisioone is an element of U that belongs to exactly one block.

Formally, if P is a partition of U, then for every partiisioone x in U there exists a unique block B in P such that x in B. The blocks are often called equivalence classes when the partition arises from an equivalence relation; the partiisioone concept helps emphasize the elemental level of the partition. The granularity of a partition is determined by how many partiisioone's per block, ranging from all singletons (maximum granularity) to a single block (minimum granularity).

In practice, partiisioone is used mainly for didactic purposes and in models of data partitioning, clustering, and resource allocation. In algorithms, data items or records commonly serve as partiisioone's; partitions are produced by hash functions, keys, or distance criteria that assign each partiisioone to a particular block.
