parafileettiset
Parafileettiset is a Finnish term used in evolutionary biology and taxonomy to describe a type of grouping in phylogenetics. A parafilettinen (parafileettiset) group includes the most recent common ancestor of its members but does not include all of that ancestor’s descendants. In other words, it is paraphyletic rather than monophyletic. The concept is often contrasted with monofyletiset (monophyletic) groups, which contain all descendants of a common ancestor, and with polyfyletiset (polyphyletic) groups, which do not share a recent common ancestor within the group.
Etymology and usage: The term derives from the same conceptual roots as the English “paraphyletic,” with Finnish
Implications: Recognizing parafileettiset groups highlights the difference between historical taxonomic schemes and modern phylogenetic methods. Parafileettiset
