Papiermachines, often referred to as paper machines, are large, complex industrial machines used in the continuous production of paper and paperboard. The fundamental process involves forming a thin, wet sheet of paper fibers from a slurry of water and cellulose fibers, followed by pressing and drying to create the final paper product.

The primary stages of operation in a modern paper machine include the headbox, the wire section, the press section, and the dryer section. The headbox distributes the diluted pulp suspension evenly across the width of the machine. As the slurry flows onto a moving screen or "wire" in the wire section, water drains through, leaving the fibers to interlock and form a wet web. The press section then squeezes out more water using a series of rollers. Finally, the dryer section, consisting of heated cylinders, evaporates the remaining moisture, solidifying the paper.

Paper machines vary greatly in size, from small laboratory models to colossal industrial giants stretching hundreds of meters in length. Their design and specific components are tailored to the type of paper being produced, whether it be newsprint, fine writing paper, packaging board, or specialty papers.
