pantplikt
Pantplikt, or deposit obligation, is a policy instrument that requires beverage container producers and importers to ensure a take-back and recycling system for their containers. Consumers pay a refundable deposit when buying a beverage in a qualifying container, and receive the deposit back when returning the container to a designated redemption point, such as a store or recycling facility. The aim is to promote recycling, reduce litter, and shift end-of-life costs from municipalities to producers.
Pantplikt typically covers most bottles and cans intended for beverages, including glass, plastic, and metal containers
The system forms part of a broader extended producer responsibility regime for packaging. In many countries,
Pantplikt has contributed to higher recycling rates and better material recovery, but it also imposes costs
