Pan-Germanic is a term used to describe ideas or movements that seek unity among Germanic-speaking peoples or across the Germanic language family. The word combines pan- (all) with Germanic, referring to groups descended from Proto-Germanic. In historical and linguistic contexts it has been used to discuss shared linguistic heritage across West Germanic and North Germanic branches, and to frame discussions of a perceived common cultural-ground among these groups. However, it is not a precise technical term in modern linguistics and is more commonly encountered as a historical descriptor.
