Pénzkínálat refers to the total amount of money and other liquid instruments in circulation within an economy at a specific point in time. This concept is fundamental to monetary economics and is closely monitored by central banks and policymakers. The pénzkínálat encompasses various forms of money, including physical currency, demand deposits, savings accounts, and other highly liquid assets that can be readily converted into cash.

Central banks typically define and measure pénzkínálat through different aggregates, commonly denoted as M0, M1, M2, M3, and sometimes M4. M0, often called the monetary base, includes physical currency and commercial banks' reserves held at the central bank. M1 generally includes M0 plus demand deposits, which are funds readily accessible in checking accounts. M2 broadens this to include M1 plus savings deposits, small time deposits, and money market mutual funds, representing a wider range of less liquid but still easily accessible funds. Higher aggregates like M3 and M4 include even less liquid assets.

Changes in the pénzkínálat have significant implications for the economy. An increase in the pénzkínálat, if not matched by an increase in the production of goods and services, can lead to inflation as more money chases the same amount of goods. Conversely, a contraction in the pénzkínálat can lead to deflation or slower economic growth.
