Pääsiäisviikko, literally "Easter Week," is the week in Finland that surrounds Easter, the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The week begins on Palm Sunday (Pääsiäisen sunnuntai) and culminates on Easter Monday (Pääsiäisen maanantai). Finnish churches hold special services on Sunday and Monday, with many pilgrims heading to ancient stone churches or coastal shrines.

During this week, many Finns observe a feast known as "pääsiäismatka," a tradition of traveling to visit near‑loved family or historic sites. The journey often includes the pouring of pure water from a spring or the sharing of “ruokasilta,” a traditional cake served on Easter Eve. Meals feature a variety of sweets, such as "pääsiäiskirppara" (Easter lollipop), "pomppitaus," and “poroikit” (small pastries).

Palm Sunday customs include the blessing of palms, “karva - palmpea,” where children and adults wrap branches in white cloths to symbolize evangelists. On Easter Sunday, a more solemn celebration involves the “holkki” prayer for the dead, reflecting Finland’s deep historical connection between faith and remembrance.

Most municipalities hold summer‑style festivals, with folk music, dance, and bread baking events that reinforce community bonds. The week also sees widespread participation in volunteer work; church groups often organize rescue operations for the elderly or clean up public spaces to mark renewal.
