Oxidemetal is a term that broadly refers to a compound containing at least one metal cation and an oxide anion. These compounds are formed through oxidation reactions, where a metal loses electrons and oxygen gains them. The resulting oxide anions are typically O²⁻, though peroxides (O₂²⁻) and superoxides (O₂⁻) are also possible, leading to different classes of metal oxides.
