Overføringsmodus, or transfer mode, refers to the way data is transmitted between two systems or devices. Different transfer modes are designed for different purposes, optimizing for speed, reliability, or efficiency.

One common transfer mode is synchronous transmission. In this mode, data is sent in a continuous stream at a predetermined clock rate. Both the sender and receiver synchronize their clocks to ensure accurate data reception. This method is very efficient for large blocks of data as there is no need for start and stop bits for each character.

Another mode is asynchronous transmission. Here, data is sent character by character, with each character framed by a start bit and one or more stop bits. This allows for more flexibility as the sender and receiver do not need to be precisely synchronized. This is often used for devices that send data intermittently.

A third transfer mode is isochronous transmission. This is a hybrid approach that combines aspects of both synchronous and asynchronous methods. It guarantees a fixed data rate, similar to synchronous transmission, but allows for some flexibility in timing between data packets. This is ideal for real-time applications like streaming audio or video where consistent delivery is crucial. The choice of transfer mode depends heavily on the specific requirements of the communication, such as the type of data, the distance between devices, and the acceptable levels of latency and error.
