Otsaontelot, also known as frontal sinuses, are a pair of air-filled cavities located within the frontal bone of the skull, above the eyes and behind the forehead. These sinuses are part of the larger paranasal sinus system, which also includes the ethmoid, maxillary, and sphenoid sinuses. The frontal sinuses are the most anterior of the paranasal sinuses.

The primary function of the frontal sinuses is not fully understood, but they are believed to contribute to several aspects of facial anatomy and physiology. They may play a role in lightening the weight of the skull, humidifying inhaled air, and acting as resonating chambers for the voice. Additionally, the mucus produced by the lining of the sinuses helps to trap and remove foreign particles and pathogens from the nasal passages.

The frontal sinuses develop during childhood and continue to grow until adulthood. Their size and shape can vary significantly from person to person. They are lined with a mucous membrane that is continuous with the lining of the nasal cavity, and they drain into the nasal cavity through small openings called ostia.

Inflammation of the frontal sinuses, known as frontal sinusitis, is a common medical condition. It can be caused by infections, allergies, or blockages in the drainage pathways. Symptoms of frontal sinusitis may include facial pain or pressure, headache, nasal congestion, and a runny nose. In severe cases, it can lead to complications. Medical attention is usually sought for persistent or severe symptoms.
