Osutajast is a genus of extinct reptiles that lived during the Triassic period. It is classified as a member of the family Phytosauria, a group of large aquatic archosaurs.

The name Osutajast was first used in a 2010 article describing a new species from the Karirka locality in Russia. The genus is characterized by a combination of distinctive cranial and postcranial features, including a helmet-like skull with pronounced jugal and maxillary bones, and a long, slender tail with a narrow caudal peduncle.

Osutajast is known from a single incomplete skeleton found in the Laurasian Triassic system of Russia. The specimen includes a nearly complete skull, several vertebrae, and a long tail lacking its caudal vertebrae. Initially considered to be a single individual, reevaluation has suggested that the remains may represent a juvenile phytosaur due to its incomplete development.

Phylogenetic analysis suggests that Osutajast occupies a distinct position within Phytosauria, possibly representing a basal or intermediately placed taxon. While initially thought to have been more closely related to Phytosaurs, a 2015 study overturned previous assessments, placing it in closer relation to those such as Archegosuchus.

Osutajast provides a significant opportunity for understanding the extraordinarily diverse group that comprised the Phytosaurs in Russia. However, as fossil material of this genus remains scarce and it remains difficult to determine whether it constitutes a unique and valid taxon within Phytosaurian research or simply is an aberrant aspect of the Phytosaurid family.
