Ortorektifikáció is a digital image processing technique used to correct geometric distortions in aerial or satellite imagery. These distortions often arise from the tilt of the camera, the curvature of the Earth, and variations in the terrain elevation. Ortorektifikáció essentially transforms an image into a map-like representation where the scale is uniform across the entire image.

The process involves using a digital elevation model (DEM) of the area and information about the sensor and its position and orientation during image acquisition. The DEM provides the height data for each point on the ground, allowing for the removal of relief displacement, which is the apparent shift in the position of an object due to its height. The sensor's position and orientation data are used to model the perspective projection of the camera.

By combining the original image, the DEM, and the sensor parameters, an ortorectified image is generated. In an ortorectified image, features are projected to their true ground positions, as if viewed from directly overhead. This makes ortorektifikáció crucial for accurate measurements, mapping, and integration with other geospatial data. It is widely used in fields such as photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, and cartography.
