OrganellDNA refers to genetic material found within organelles, specifically mitochondria and chloroplasts, in eukaryotic cells. Unlike the primary nuclear DNA, which is inherited biparentally, organelle DNA is typically inherited maternally in most multicellular organisms. This extranuclear DNA is circular in shape, similar to bacterial DNA, and carries a limited number of genes essential for the organelle's function.
