Oppimiskertomuksia, often translated as learning stories, are a narrative approach to documenting and reflecting on children's learning processes. Originating in New Zealand as part of the Te Whāriki early childhood curriculum, they are used to capture moments of discovery, exploration, and growth. Instead of focusing solely on outcomes, learning stories emphasize the journey of learning.

A learning story typically describes a specific event or interaction, observed by an educator, that reveals something about a child's thinking, skills, or understanding. The narrative then includes an educator's interpretation of the learning that occurred and often poses questions or suggestions for future engagement to further support the child's development. The child's voice and perspective are also encouraged and can be incorporated.
