Ophthalmosaurid is an extinct family of ichthyosaurs, marine reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic Era. These creatures were highly adapted to life in the sea, possessing streamlined bodies, large eyes, and paddle-like limbs. The name "ophthalmosaurid" itself means "eye lizard," referring to the exceptionally large orbits of their skulls, which suggest they had excellent vision, likely for hunting in dim light conditions.

Ophthalmosaurids were particularly successful during the Cretaceous period.
