Operatius is a term used in some theoretical discussions to denote a framework for organizing and composing operators in mathematics and computer science. The word derives from Latin operatio, meaning operation, and is employed to describe a structured way to think about how basic operations combine to form new ones.

Definition and structure: An operatius structure consists of a set O of operators on a common carrier set S, together with a composition operation ∘: O × O → O that is closed. Depending on the variant, the structure may require an identity operator e in O such that for all f in O, e ∘ f = f ∘ e = f, and it may impose associativity: (f ∘ g) ∘ h = f ∘ (g ∘ h). Some authors distinguish operatius monoids (with identity) and operatius algebras (with a scalar action or additional operations). The exact axioms are not fixed universally, which is part of why the term is not standardized.

Examples: Let S be a set and O be all endomorphisms of S, i.e., functions from S to S. If ∘ is function composition and id is the identity function, then (O, ∘, id) forms an operatius monoid.
