oolithic
Oolitic refers to a sedimentary rock composed primarily of ooids. Ooids are spherical or subspherical grains that are typically 0.25 to 2 millimeters in diameter. They are formed by the accretion of calcium carbonate around a nucleus, such as a grain of sand or a shell fragment, which is rolled and coated by successive layers of calcite. This process occurs in agitated, shallow marine environments where wave action or currents repeatedly move the nucleus, allowing for even deposition of the mineral layers.
The term "oolitic" is derived from the Greek word "oion," meaning egg, referring to the egg-like shape
