In some uses, olfactoor refers to a device, system, or concept designed to detect, analyze, store, and reproduce odors.

Concept and design: An olfactoor would theoretically combine an olfactory sensor array to detect volatile compounds, a processing unit to translate these detections into digital representations, and an output mechanism to deliver odors to a user. Playback methods could involve microencapsulated scent emitters, aerosolized blends, or other odor-release technologies. The aim is to provide a measurable, repeatable odor experience alongside corresponding data or simulations.

Applications and challenges: Potential uses include virtual reality scent experiences, environmental monitoring, product development in fragrances and flavors, quality control in food processing, and clinical olfactory assessment. Significant challenges include the subjective nature of odor perception, the complexity of odor mixtures, variability among individuals, calibration and standardization, safety considerations, and regulatory issues.
