Obim is a term used in Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian to denote the perimeter or circumference of a two‑dimensional figure. It measures the total length of the boundary and is a one‑dimensional quantity.

In geometry, obim is the boundary length of a shape and is distinct from povšrina (area) and zapremina (volume). It can be determined by directly measuring the boundary or by calculating from known dimensions.

Formulas are used to compute obim for common shapes. For regular polygons, obim equals the sum of all side lengths. For a circle, obim = 2πr = πd, where r is the radius and d is the diameter. For a rectangle with sides a and b, obim = 2(a + b); for a square with side a, obim = 4a. For irregular shapes, obim is the length of the boundary and may be found by tracing the boundary or using integration along the curve.

Examples help illustrate the concept. A circle with radius 3 cm has obim approximately 18.85 cm. A square with side 5 cm has obim 20 cm.

Usage and context: the term is standard in school geometry, surveying, architecture, urban planning, and computer graphics, where knowing the boundary length of a figure or region is important. While obim describes the boundary, it does not determine the area inside the boundary; that quantity is called površina or area in these languages.
