Növénysejtek are the fundamental building blocks of plant organisms. They share many characteristics with animal cells but possess several distinct features that are crucial for plant life. A key distinguishing organelle is the cell wall, a rigid outer layer primarily composed of cellulose, which provides structural support and protection to the plant cell and the plant as a whole. Inside the cell wall is the cell membrane, which regulates the passage of substances into and out of the cell.

Plant cells contain a large central vacuole, a membrane-bound sac that can occupy a significant portion of the cell's volume. This vacuole stores water, nutrients, and waste products, and it plays a vital role in maintaining turgor pressure, which helps keep the plant rigid. Chloroplasts are another defining feature of plant cells. These organelles are the sites of photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of sugars. Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll, the pigment that gives plants their green color.

Like animal cells, plant cells also have a nucleus, which contains the cell's genetic material, and various other organelles such as mitochondria for energy production, endoplasmic reticulum for protein and lipid synthesis, and Golgi apparatus for modifying and packaging molecules. However, plant cells lack centrioles, which are involved in cell division in animal cells. The presence of a cell wall, a large central vacuole, and chloroplasts are the most significant differences that enable plants to perform unique functions like photosynthesis and maintain their upright structure.
