Näyttölaite, commonly referred to as a display device, is an output device that presents visual information to a user. It converts electronic signals into a visible representation. The most prevalent type of display device today is the flat-panel display, which utilizes technologies like liquid crystal display (LCD) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED). LCDs work by blocking or allowing light to pass through a matrix of pixels, while OLEDs emit their own light from each pixel, resulting in deeper blacks and higher contrast ratios. Older technologies include cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays, which used electron beams to illuminate phosphors on a screen.

Key characteristics of a display device include its resolution, which defines the number of pixels that can be displayed, impacting the sharpness and detail of the image. Refresh rate, measured in Hertz (Hz), indicates how many times per second the image on the screen is updated, affecting motion fluidity. Color depth determines the number of colors a display can reproduce, contributing to the vibrancy and realism of images. Aspect ratio refers to the proportional relationship between the width and height of the display.
