The rate of nucleation is influenced by factors such as temperature, pressure, and the presence of foreign surfaces. A higher degree of supersaturation or supercooling generally leads to a higher nucleation rate. Understanding the nucleation process is crucial for controlling the properties of materials, such as crystal size and distribution, which in turn affect their mechanical, electrical, and optical characteristics.
