In observational studies, researchers systematically watch and record behaviors or phenomena as they naturally occur, without attempting to influence them. Survey research gathers data from a sample of individuals through questionnaires or interviews, aiming to understand attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors. Correlational studies examine the statistical relationship between two or more variables, identifying whether they tend to vary together, but without implying causation. Archival research involves analyzing existing data, such as historical records, public documents, or previous research findings, to answer research questions.

These methods are valuable when experimental manipulation is impractical, unethical, or impossible. For instance, studying the effects of natural disasters or the long-term impact of socioeconomic factors cannot be done experimentally. Nonexperimental research provides insights into real-world phenomena and can generate hypotheses that may later be tested experimentally. However, a key limitation is the inability to establish definitive cause-and-effect relationships due to the absence of controlled manipulation and random assignment.
