Nitrogéngáz, also known as nitrogen gas, is a chemical element with the symbol N and atomic number 7. It is a diatomic molecule with the formula N2. Under standard conditions, it is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas. Nitrogen gas is abundant in Earth's atmosphere, making up about 78% of the air we breathe. It is relatively unreactive due to the strong triple bond between the two nitrogen atoms.

Nitrogen is essential for life, being a key component of amino acids, proteins, and nucleic acids like DNA and RNA. Although atmospheric nitrogen is plentiful, most organisms cannot directly utilize it. Instead, they rely on a process called nitrogen fixation, where certain bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen into more usable forms like ammonia.

Industrially, nitrogen gas is produced through the fractional distillation of liquid air. It has numerous applications. It is used as an inert atmosphere in food packaging to prevent spoilage, in the manufacturing of ammonia for fertilizers, and as a coolant when liquefied (liquid nitrogen). It is also used in the automotive industry for inflating tires, providing a more stable pressure than air. Furthermore, nitrogen is employed in various chemical processes and in the production of explosives.
